Private tutoring

STEM tutoring directly from an experienced scientist.

I offer one-to-one tutoring in mathematics and science, with a particular focus on demanding problem solving and university admissions preparation.

Sharing my passion with the next generation

I begin by understanding the student: what they enjoy about the subject, where they want it to take them, and how their current attainment compares with those ambitions. Through carefully chosen questions, I look not only at whether an answer is right or wrong, but at the reasoning behind it. This helps uncover gaps in understanding while also identifying the areas in which the student is already strong.

Teaching can then be tailored to what will make the greatest difference, whether that means revisiting rusty fundamentals, approaching familiar problems in new ways, or stretching a strong student with more demanding material. The aim is to develop the scientific reasoning and fluency needed to tackle unfamiliar problems with increasing confidence and independence.

For students who are ready to go further, I can also draw on my research experience to connect what they are learning in school with the wider world of science. I want students to see not only how to solve the problem in front of them, but where their knowledge can take them next.

Exam preparation to enable success

Exam preparation is a different challenge to general comprehension. I help students identify weak areas and develop focused practice to improve exam performance. I offer preparation centred on mathematical and scientific reasoning, detailed error analysis, and focused practice for speed and accuracy.
